International Best New Engine of the Year 2010

The revolutionary MultiAir engine currently fitted on the Alfa MiTo won the prestigious “Engine of the Year” award in the best new engine of the year category 2010.
Developed and produced by Fiat Powertrain Technologies, the 1.4 MultiAir Turbo engines with power ratings between 135 and 170 bhp, set new standards in terms of efficiency.
With its 124 bhp/litre, the 170 bhp range leader, in particular notches up a particularly high specific power that ensures sporty performance with record-breaking fuel consumption and emissions.
With cylinder-by-cylinder, stroke-by-stroke direct air intake control and without a throttle valve, multi award-winning MultiAir technology cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 10%, while obtaining 10% more power and 15% more torque. Furthermore, precise combustion control also reduces polluting emissions.
MultiAir is versatile technology that can easily be applied to all petrol engines. Interesting potential developments are in store for diesel engines too.
The “Best New Engine of the Year” prize was awarded by an international panel made up of 65 specialist journalists from 32 countries.
“A lot of power combined with low emissions makes the 1.4 an excellent engine. When we also look at fuel consumption, the MultiAir Turbo is truly an outstanding power unit. It is easy to understand why it received the prize of best engine of the year”, declared Dean Slavnich, Joint Chairman of the Competition and Owner of the magazine Engine Technology International.
