Alfa D.N.A. - The device that customises car performance

The Alfa Romeo D.N.A. system offers three different driving modes: Dynamic (D), Normal (N) and All-weather (A). Throttle response, steering and handling are all optimised to your chosen setting at the flick of a switch, subtly altering throttle response, steering, Electronic Q2 differential (where applicable) and Vehicle Dynamic Control system (VDC). On the open road in dry weather, you'll love the eager throttle response and steering feedback of Dynamic, but there will be other times when conditions suggest a more relaxed approach.

Of course, an Alfa Romeo is always rewarding to drive - but D.N.A. allows you to fine-tune it to suit your mood and road conditions.
For those who want relaxed, safe driving,  Normal mode means that each individual component affected by the Alfa D.N.A. system are in their normal configuration: lively engine, highly discreet Vehicle Dynamic Control and a DST (Dynamic Steering Torque) which sees that oversteering is avoided. The Normal mode suggests gear shifts with a Gear Shift Indicator, this allows fuel consumption and emissions to be optimised for a perfect, comfortable and smooth drive around town.

Technical specifications

  • VDC and ASR: Standard configuration
  • DUAL PINION ACTIVE STEERING: Normal Tuning
  • DST: Standard braking control coordinated with ABS
  • Standard control over lateral acceleration
  • Oversteer correction: slight pressure through steering wheel encourages drivers to steer in the correct direction
  • Engine: Standard responsiveness

Dynamic
Move the selector up to Dynamic position and the car performs exactly as you expect from the sporting spirit of any Alfa Romeo: the engine response is immediate; delivery is substantial due to the overboost, while the Electronic Q2 differential allows corners to be taken in complete safety with impeccable control.

Technical specifications

  • VDC and ASR: Less intrusive VDC and ASR - Electronic Q2 activation
  • DUAL PINION ACTIVE STEERING: Sportier turning;
  • DST: Standard braking control coordinated with ABS
  • Greater control over lateral acceleration
  • Oversteer correction: slight pressure through the steering wheel encourages drivers to steer in the correct direction
  • Engine: Faster response

All-weather
In All-weather mode, the car prepares itself to face the most difficult grip conditions, alerting all its active safety systems, including the VDC and Electronic Q2. The engine response will become more gradual and controlled to minimise skidding in adverse weather.

Technical specifications

  • VDC and ASR: More intrusive VDC, less intrusive ASR
  • DUAL PINION ACTIVE STEERING:normal turning
  • DST: Greater braking control coordinated with VDC
  • Standard control over lateral acceleration
  • Oversteer correction: slight pressure through steering wheel encourages drivers to steer in the correct direction
  • Engine: Standard response

Prefill

Prefill is a new function that offers drivers incredibly prompt braking pressurising the brake system in advance in the event of an emergency. The Prefill is active in the Alfa D.N.A. Dynamic mode. In detail, the control unit recognises the driver's desire to brake from the speed at which accelerator pedal is released. At this point the VDC increases the pressure inside the braking system by several bars to take up any play and create the sensation of quicker braking response. This system speeds up the operation of the braking system.
