Konstantin Grcic was born in Munich, Germany, in 1965. After gaining experience as a cabinet-maker and restorer at Pernham College in England, from 1988 to 1990 he studied design at the Royal College of Art in London, a city where e stayed for several months to collaborate with Jasper Morrison.
Since opening his studio, Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design, he has designed projects, furnishings, and industrial design objects for some of the most prestigious international brands: Magis, Moormann, Authentics, Vitra, Thomas/Rosenthal, Flos, ClassiCon, Krups, Lamy, Moroso, Muji, Plank, Littala, Driade, and many others.
His designs, which are often essential but never minimalist, have received dozens of International awards.
In October 2000, Grcic was Guest of Honor at the Kortijk Interieor Design Biennal in Belgium, where he presented an extensive exhibition of his work. The following year, his Mayday lamp (produced by Flos) won the 2001 Golden Compass award, and joined the permanent collection at the MoMA in New York.
In 2007 he was named Designer of the Year by ‘Arckitectur & Whonen’ in Cologne, and Designer of the Year at the ‘Maison & Objet’ fair in Paris.
In addition to the numerous industrial projects he is currently working on, Grcic has been asked by architects Herzog & de Meuron to design the furnishings for the new Parrish Art Museum in Long Island (USA).
