Engines and Gearboxes
JTS (Jet Thrust Stoichiometric) direct injection petrol engine system. It's an original Alfa Romeo concept of direct injection of the fuel into the combustion chamber with a stoichiometric strength specially optimized for performance, whilst permitting at the same time good fuel consumption and respecting emissions limits.
The stoichiometric ratio indicates the amount of air and the amount of petrol necessary to form the mixture which is made to explode by a spark after compression in the combustion chamber. The ratio for petrol engines is 14.5 to 1 on average, that is 14.5 parts air (in weight) and one part petrol.
JTS
In 1998 Alfa Romeo introduced the first sequential robot-commanded mechanical transmission used on a production-line saloon car. This type of gear, stemming from the experience of Magneti Marelli in Formula 1, has always guaranteed extraordinary performance, driving fun, and flexibility of use. Today these qualities are given their maximum expression in the present generation of Selespeed gearboxes, available on the Alfa 159, Brera and Spider. To better adapt to different driver needs, the new generation of gearboxes offers completely automatic and also manual use. In addition, to give full expression to the excitement of driving, Alfa Romeo has developed the Sport mode, which can be activated in both manual and automatic operation. In the first case, the Sport mode reduces the gear change time by about 20% by a compression of the torque reduction and return phases. This allows for very quick gear changing, up to 120ms, less than half of what can be achieved by the most expert professional driver. In automatic use, however, the engagement of the Sport mode shifts the gear change points to higher speeds.

For anyone who doesn't want to give up the pleasure of sporty driving, the sequential mode can be selected by using the steering wheel paddle.
And in Sport mode the system heightens the performance and guarantees a brilliant and enjoyable drive thanks to the gear changes being set at higher engine speeds, allowing sportier car handling.
In addition to the Sport mode, there is a Winter mode that gives maximum grip even when the road surface is particularly treacherous, on snowy roads, for example.
