Tonale takes the next step in elevating the synergy of man and machine for a more visceral driving experience with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). By reaching Level 2 Autonomous driving, everyone onboard can appreciate the added safety and comfort.
Alfa Romeo Tonale offers Level 2 Autonomous driving through a camera system to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, longitudinally and laterally, keeping the vehicle at the correct speed, both in terms of surrounding vehicles and posted limits, in the center of its lane combining Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), Lane Centering (LC) and Traffic Jam Assist (TJA). These three systems work to maintain the safest position on the road with minimal driver intervention.
Blind Spot Detection monitors the driver’s blind spots while driving, visually warning the driver on the side mirrors when another vehicle is in its blind spot. Rear Path Detection is activated while Tonale is in reverse helps when backing out of parking spaces and other reduced visibility situations. It alerts the driver when an object laterally approaches the vehicle.
It offers an all-round view of the car’s surroundings on the 10.25” touchscreen with dynamic grids. With four high-definition cameras positioned on the front grille, rearview mirrors and tailgate and 12 sensors, allows easier parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces.
Lane Control system controls the sideways movement of the car to keep the vehicle within the lane.
It combines the functions of the Lane departure warning and the Lane keeping Assist.
The traffic sign recognition system uses the on-board camera to recognise traffic signs, reports them on the display, and alerts the driver of the current speed limit. The Intelligent Speed Control (ISC) suggests the driver to adapt their speed to the limit detected. If the driver accepts, it will be automatically adjusted.
The Autonomous Emergency Braking with vulnerable road users is a system that uses the Tonale’s front mounted camera to visually and audibly warn the driver of a vehicle or pedestrian or cyclists ahead. If the driver is unable to stop in time, the vehicle autonomously brakes to avoid or mitigate a collision.
This system can detect the initial signs of fatigue by monitoring lateral movements of the vehicle and driver’s interactions to sense possible tiredness. If detected, the system emits beeps and shows visual warnings, recommending the driver stop for a break.
The system is able to detect the presence of an object in the rear seat when a rear door is opened at the beginning of each key cycle. When the car is turned off, the device alerts and reminds the driver that the item is there.
